This is one of those great recipes to have on hand for those nights when you've forgotten to plan ahead for dinner. Using ingredients we usually always have on hand, this hamburger casserole also offers an alternative to the typical meals you can prepare with ground hamburger.
A cross between a green bean casserole and a cheeseburger casserole, this delicious dish is easy to prepare and works great in a pinch.
If you've neglected to plan ahead for dinner, you can thaw hamburger rather quickly in a large bowl or sinkful of warm water.
If you're tired of the old spaghetti or meatloaf standby, and want to try something a little different, I highly recommend this recipe. It's a kid, husband and mommy pleaser all in one.
What You Need:
- 1 pound ground hamburger
- 5-6 medium potatoes, sliced
- 1 can cream of celery soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 small onion or 2 tablespoons minced onion
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Pinch garlic salt
- Pinch onion powder
- 1/2 cup french fried onions
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 can cut green beans
Brown hamburger with the chopped onions or minced onion and drain. Slice potatoes, and arrange on the bottom of an 8x8, greased casserole dish. Add hamburger and seasonings. Drain green beans and spread on top of hamburger. Mix together milk and cream of celery soup, pour over green beans. Sprinkle cheese on top. Cook in preheated oven at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Remove from onion, add french fried onions and continue baking for another five minutes.
This hamburger casserole is excellent paired with Pillsbury's Southern Style biscuits. Southern Style biscuits can be found in the freezer aisle, in a resealable bag so you can use only as many as you need, and they don't expire as quickly as the refrigerated types.
