Tuna fish is low in fat and full of vitamin D, and is very good for you. Use tuna in brine in this recipe to keep the calories count lower, otherwise tuna in olive oil or sunflower oil is a good choice.
Ingredients ( serves 2 adults)
-
1 packet savoury white sauce mix
-
half pint skimmed milk
-
1 large can of tuna ( to yield around 7oz of tuna)
-
2oz sweetcorn
-
2 oz peas
-
generous dash of Worcester Sauce
-
salt and pepper to season
-
pasta shapes of your choice
Method
-
Make up the savoury white sauce according to the instructions on the packet
-
Add the tuna, sweetcorn, peas and Worcester sauce to the pan, season with salt and pepper and heat gently. Stir carefully to avoid breaking up all the tuna pieces.
-
If using frozen vegetables , heat until they are cooked through.
-
Meanwhile , cook pasta, noodles or tagliatelle according to the instructions on the pack.
-
Serve the tuna sauce on top of the pasta.
Add a green salad and garlic bread for a substantial main meal. This dish freezes well, so you can make double the quantity and simply defrost and heat gently on a busy day. If the sauce seems a little dry on re-heating, just add a dash of milk.
