Macaroni and cheese became widely popular in America back in 1937 when Kraft Dinner introduced their boxed version. This version of mac and cheese isn't quite as affordable but I'm confident the kids will love it more than the stuff in a box.

Turkey Cutlets with Parmesan and Walnuts E-mail
Recipes for Moms - Healthy Recipes

I'm always tempted by turkey cutlets at the grocery store; from an aesthetic perspective, their uniformity in size prompts me to plan a dinner party just because I think they would look nice arranged on plates at several place settings. From a health perspective, one four-ounce serving is roughly equal to skinless chicken breasts when comparing calories, protein and fat, yet cutlets generally cost less than chicken breasts. The only drawback with turkey cutlets is that it can be tricky to prepare them without the end result being as boring and tough as a cardboard place card. In this low-glycemic recipe, the shredded Parmesan and organic walnuts are a particularly lovely combination of two earthy flavors, warmed by cinnamon, cloves and cayenne. I never enjoyed reading cookbooks, like my mother and daughter. I only want a recipe when I need to get something done. But the internet has changed that. I find myself checking the internet for recipes all the time.

This foundation for this delectable peach recipe was a grand-prize winner in a recipe contest, sent in from Lois Schlademan of Stow, Ohio, and was created by Lois's mother in the 1940s. I've altered the procedures and ingredients for maximum flavor and improved presentation and, with a tip of my hat to the Schlademan family, respectfully concur that this dish "deserves a seat alongside cobbler and crisp in the pantheon of simple American fruit desserts."

Any recipe with the word "whiz" in the title obviously predates the Food Network. My mom Jane scribbled this recipe when CFPL's Bill Brady recited it over the radio one morning when she was yet a stay-at-home-mom---decades before anyone coined the acronym SAHM---and she has relied on it ever since.

Tips and Advice - Cooking from Scratch

This is just one of my favorite Italian tomato recipes. It calls for imported Italian plum tomatoes, such as San Marzano. You can get a big #10 size can of it at Costco pretty cheaply. Mine were domestically grown, and the sauce still tasted like Italy to me. The key is that the tomatoes taste good, dense and full of flavor, whatever type you use.

When Life Gives You Lemons - Make Ketchup E-mail
Tips and Advice - Canning and Preserving Food
Written by Michael Gokey
Wednesday, 11 June 2008
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade is the normal refrain. However, during this time of the tomato scare, there is two things happening, they are removing tomatoes all over the place, and the price of "safe" tomatoes is going to go sky high. The other thing is that ALL the rest of the tomato crop is going to be "dumped". As I was reading this the other day, I thought to myself, "Self, with the economy in the dumper and the tomato crop being wasted, I bet they are willing to sell real cheaply. Make canned tomato products while you can as cheaply as you can. Can you say that ten times fast?
