Lawalu Snapper

Lawalu Snapper is a favored traditional Hawaiian fish dish. There are three native snappers used for this recipe, chu (short-tailed red snapper, onaga (long-tailed red snapper) and 'ama 'ama (striped mullet).  'Ama 'ama was traditionally pond raised, and there some ancient fish ponds being restored for aquaculture, not only to produce fish, but to reintroduce a early sustainable practice. The term lawalu refers to fish or meat wrapped in ti-or banana leaves and steamed.

These Southern Style BBQ Baked Beans are what my family eats. In the South generally each region has its own style, from Texas to the Carolinas.  These are super easy to make, and while they take a long time to cook and prepare, your time is only a few minutes here and there.  My three year son loves these and will eat as much as the rest of us. They can be made Vegetarian by leaving any meat out, and I think that even qualifies them as Vegan as well.
