Feeding Toddlers

Your toddler might be snacking one to two times per day in addition to his regular three-a-day meals. Most toddlers only require about 1300 calories a day, so a snack for a toddler might be considerably smaller than a snack for an adult. If you’re like me, you want your child to have some variety in the foods he eats, so you may be constantly searching for easy snack ideas for your kiddo. Here are some snacks that should please your toddler without a lot of prep time.

Part of me hopes that you all know about the magic of roasted veggies, because otherwise you’d be missing out on so much; the other part of me is excited to imagine someone just now trying this technique for the first time!

Like everything having to do with babies and toddlers, there's not really a magic age for introducing silverware. Generally between one year and eighteen months a child should have an opportunity to begin learning how to use a spoon and a fork, but children typically do not master the use of utensils until the age of three or four.

I prefer to try herbal, natural methods for dealing with the little upset tummies and congested noses that my babies have. Sure, there's medicine available, but sometimes a gentler remedy works just as well. Here are a couple of recipes I use that are safe for infants:

Sometimes you crave sweet stuff, and
that's fine. But don't give in to the pregnancy urges that tell you
to consume the entire carton of ice cream or package of Oreos. You're
not helping yourself out at all. Sweet food won't kill you if eaten
in reasonable amounts, so have a little bit of what you crave. Then
help yourself to one of these better for you sweet snack options.

Mulled wine is enjoyed all over Europe every Christmas and also appears in America as a Christmas staple alongside eggnog. Let baby join in the festivities this year with this homemade baby mulled "wine." It's perfect for babies who are old enough to drink from a sippy or cup. This drink is also a great way to get older children involved, especially if served to them in the same cup or glass as the grown ups are using. (It's also perfect for the designated drivers for the evening!)

Whether you believe in a God, Mother Nature or science, it was not on one of their nicer days that they conspired to allow babies to start teething at the same time that they begin to enjoy finger food. This leaves moms with one of the few rare pleasures of teething, that baby can soothe himself. Although a cold hard carrot stick can work wonders and is a super teething biscuit, these ginger and cinnamon homemade teething biscuits are easy to make and very effective.

Pregnancy Diet

There are many nutritional and diet
advice books that recommend eating several smaller meals throughout
the day rather than two or three heavy meals. The theory is that
doing so keeps your energy and your metabolism at a higher level,
rather than loading your body down with a heavy load of food to work
through and creating up and down energy and metabolic cycles as your
digestive system processes it all.
