Since Valentine's Day arrives on a Saturday this year, the focus on family celebrations might be the norm for many teens. This could be a reprieve for the shy or awkward teen not yet prepared for this event in their lives.
Just like us adults, there are teens that are not connected with another member of the opposite sex. There could be a group of friends wanting to get together for a Saturday brunch or an impromptu party. If your teen is invited to a gathering of his or her peers a basket or tin of some goodies would be ideal to bring along.
The basket or tin would be lined with red or pink napkins and include nuts, raisins, crackers, cheese, popcorn, health bars, dried fruit, licorice and some chocolate pieces or M&Ms. Feel free to get creative and use what is available in your cupboards for a final personal touch.
At this age using cookie cutters for shapes of cookies is not really appropriate. However, little heart designs on cakes is a nice addition or writing out the date on a cake. A bowl of red jello, strawberries and whipped cream could serve as appetizers or dessert for a group setting.
A buffet style table would work for a sandwich night so that each guest or family member can prepare their favorite. These can include bacon, lettuce and tomato, lunch meats, grilled cheese, hot open sandwiches or even finger sandwiches.
Another option for some teens hanging out on Valentine's Day would be Fondue or Kabobs. This would be fun and interactive in the process. Making pudding or fudge is another option bringing teens of both genders together in a fun cooking setting celebrating February 14th.
Teens can also start their day by making pancakes for the family and parents, muffins, french toast or even an omelet. Lunch or dinner options include heart shaped pizzas, burgers or cutlets.
For dessert there are always cupcakes, a sundae bar, brownies with frosting or chocolate chips, chocolate cake or a chocolate mousse pie. These are just some ideas for the teens to enjoy taking part in Valentine's Day celebrations, whether it be with a member of the opposite sex, friends or family.
