Let's get the conversation started about Feeding Children: what, when, how, how much, and how little? The recipes and tips. The angst and the worry. The enjoyment and the pleasure. The rising cost of groceries, fast food, farmer's markets, high fructose corn syrup, beef recalls, school lunch programs, fear-mongering news stories, real food scares, and political consciousness. Let's talk about it all, but let's also keep it real.

Plain and simple, I'm no expert, and I don't want to tell your family what or how to eat. As a real, average, somewhat culinarily challenged mom to two young boys, I simply want to explore the truths, struggles, and humor of keeping healthy family eating in check with the rest of our lives.

Of course, that means I'll be admitting, all too frequently, that sometimes we slip up and my family eats junk. I'll tell you right now I have a "progress not perfection" approach to the "Five a Day" fruits and vegetable movement.

At our house, sometimes there are bad meal days. Other times there are bad meal weeks. We've been known to have a bad meal month. However, the meandering path to good eating does always lead us back to that delicious place at the table that feels right for our family. We just don't find ourselves there every day.

And that's what I want to talk about here. I hope you'll join me.
