FusilliA great family meal to pre-prepare the night before or even to freeze is pasta bake. This childhood favourite can be a favourite for your baby, too.

Pasta is great both cold in summer and hot in winter. A filling comfort food, there are many varieties to choose from. There are several flavours such as normal egg pasta, spinach pasta and tomato pasta. There are also many different shapes of pasta such as the shell shaped conchiglie, the butterfly shaped farfalle, tubular penne and, of course, spaghetti.

Any shape or flavour of pasta can be used for the following recipes but the most popular is the twisted fusilli as it is easy to mash and easy for little fingers to grip.

Tuna and Sweet corn Pasta

Ingredients:

½ tin of tuna

1 large handful of dried pasta

½ small tin of sweet corn

1 small handful of grated mild cheese

Method:

  1. Bring a pan of water to a boil and add a touch of oil to prevent the pasta from sticking
  2. Put the pasta in the water and leave to simmer for 15 minutes to ensure it is very soft
  3. Drain the pasta and mix with the tuna and sweet corn
  4. Place in a dish and melt the grated cheese on top with either the grill, oven or microwave
  5. Mix the cheese into the tuna pasta mix and allow to cool
  6. For younger babies, add a bit of baby formula or cow's milk then puree the pasta mix. For older babies, mash with a fork. For babies over 1 year old, try not mashing the mixture and giving baby a child's fork (but expect the fingers to get involved pretty quickly!)

Tomato and Spinach Bake

Ingredients:

1 handful of dried pasta

½ tin of chopped tomatoes

2 large handfuls of spinach leaves (before cooking)

1 small handful of grated mild cheese

1 tablespoon of butter or margarine

2 tablespoons of cream

Method:

  1. Bring a pan of water to a boil and add a touch of oil to prevent the pasta from sticking
  2. Put the pasta in the water and leave to simmer for 15 minutes to ensure it is very soft
  3. Drain the pasta
  4. Wash the spinach in cold water then drain in a colander
  5. Melt some butter in a thick based saucepan on a medium heat. Add the leaves then stir every thirty seconds until the spinach has fully wilted
  6. Add the cream and simmer for 30 seconds before adding the tomatoes
  7. Once the tomatoes have heated up, add the cheese and leave on medium heat until the cheese has melted. Stir frequently.
  8. Finally, stir in the pasta
  9. For younger babies, add a bit of baby formula or cow's milk then puree the pasta mix. For older babies, mash with a fork. For babies over 1 year old, try not mashing the mixture and giving baby a child's fork (but expect the fingers to get involved pretty quickly!)

avatar I think I will try those at home myself. Thanks for posting them. I make a simple tuna noodle, with 2 cans tuna, 1/2 can of peas, and 1/2 can of cream of celery, or cream or mushroom, or cream of chicken and mix it all together. Simple and quick.
