A lot of quick and easy recipes call for commercial onion soup mix. You can easily make your own homemade onion soup mix ahead of time, store it, and use it when you're ready to speed up your cooking.
Homemade Onion Soup Mix
Ingredients:
- 3 cups dried, minced onion - use dehydrated onions, commercial or homemade
- 1 cup dry beef bouillon - Be careful here. Find a good, MSG-free, low salt brand. I like Herb Ox, but make sure you read the labels.
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon celery seed
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Instructions:
Blend all ingredients in a blender or spice grinder until you have a fine powder. Store in an airtight container. 1/4 cup of the powder is equivalent to one of the commercial packets.
