This taco seasoning can be used to flavor soups, stews, chicken
breasts, meatloaves, grilled steaks and burgers, beans, burritos and
tacos of all types. Tossing some on fresh popcorn also tastes great.
Ingredients for the Best Taco Seasoning
- 3/4 cup minced dry onion
- 1/4 cup garlic salt
- 1/4 cup chili powder
- 1tablespoon dried oregano
- 2 tablespoon flour or cornstarch (if glutton free)
- 2 tablespoon minced dried garlic
- 5 tablespoon paprika
- 5 tablespoon cumin
The optional add-ins are;
- 1 tablespoon Cilantro dried
- 2 tablespoon ground Chipotle pepper (preferred)
- 2 teaspoon Red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon Cayenne
Instructions for making the Best Taco Seasoning
In storage container with tight-fitting lid, combine all ingredients; mix well. Seal tightly in a labeled container. Store in cool, dry place for up to 6 months for optimal freshness.
This Taco Mix makes a little more than 2 cups of mix, enough for at least 10-12 batches using 1 lb. beef each.
2 & 1/2 tablespoons of mix equal a 1.25 oz. pkg. of purchased taco seasoning mix, so I of course just use 3 tablespoons in mine.
Using the Best Taco Seasoning
Brown your ground beef or diced chicken and drain fat. Add the 3 tablespoons of seasoning mix and 3/4 cup of water. Bring to a simmer for 5 minutes and serve. I often use 1/2 of water and 1/2 of salsa to make the tacos more richly flavored. Sometimes I will shake it up a little bit with ether thyme or sage depending on what meat I am using and what theme I am trying for.
HAVE FUN AND GET CREATIVE!
Notes: Cumin, an herb, is ground from cumin seeds, and there is no substitute for its flavor.
